How is Cupro made?
Cotton linter cellulose is dissolved in a cuprammonium solution (copper salts and ammonia), then extruded and regenerated into very fine filament. The copper-ammonia chemistry is the environmental question mark; responsible producers run closed-loop systems that recover the copper and ammonia, similar in spirit to how lyocell recovers its solvent.
