How is Conventional Cotton made?
The cotton is harvested, often with defoliant chemicals on conventional farms, ginned to separate fiber from seed, carded, combed, and spun into yarn. The environmental questions with conventional cotton sit in the field and the dyehouse: pesticide load, water use, and unregulated wet-processing chemistry. None of those turn the fiber into plastic, but they are the reasons buyers pay up for organic or Better Cotton programs.
How does Conventional Cotton perform?
Identical to organic cotton in hand and function: soft, breathable, strong when wet, excellent dye uptake, but little stretch, slow shape recovery, and prone to wrinkling.
